Released earlier this year, the Restrap Switch System is a collaborative bag and mount system from Restrap and Hiplok. Using two mounting bolts, the Hiplok fitting allows bags, bottles, and cages to be attached in a plug-and-play-like fashion. Per Restrap, the benefits of the Restrap Switch System are that the multi-mount attachment can be fitted to any 64mm-spaced bottle boss, and that the attachment design allows for a 3-kilogram (6.6-pound) cargo capacity.
While there is further integration coming soon, Restrap is currently offers 5L panniers through the Switch System, and for Collective Reward #226, one lucky member of the Bikepacking Collective will take home a pair. That’s a £130 ($175) value for our winner. Read on for details…
Made of a tough, Cordura-like exterior, with smoother, nylon-like sides, the Restrap Switch Pannier is consistent with the British brand’s dedication to quality. The bag itself features a hard, flexible internal plastic backer that serves as a support for the M4-bolted, four-bolt plate, which is attached to the back of the bag. Each pannier measures out to 7.5” long, 4.5” wide, and 16.5” high when fully unrolled. The receiver is 4” in length and sits about an inch proud of the fork blade when mounted. When not in use, it remains relatively stealth on the fork blade or attachment point.
The Hiplok attachment system features a simple, easy-on-and-off action that provides a satisfying click when fully installed. Removing the bag is just as easy as pressing down on the plastic end attached to the bag to release the fixture, which slides out in the same direction it was attached. In Nic’s review, he praised the simplicity of the Fidlock mounting system, the quick-release of the mounting bracket, and the benefits of an easy-on/easy-off waterproof micro pannier for bikepacking.
