Crankbrothers has introduced a new tire plug that they say holds up better to rough riding than other devices. The Plug Mate uses anchors designed to better stick to tires and withstand rough terrain. For more info on this new tire plug, check out all the details below…
The new Crankbrothers Plug Mate is a tire repair system that looks to offer a worthwhile solution for riders hitting the roughest sections of trail. In conjunction with the traditional bacon-strip-style tire plug, the Plug Mate uses a plastic, reusable plug anchor to create a stronger bond between the tire and the plugs, holding the tire better than a traditional plug system. Complete with two anchor plug sizes, the Plug Mate is compatible with most tire plug forks, including those found on Crankbrothers F-series, M-series, SOS, and Cigar tools.
The Plug Mate is $10 and includes three small (yellow) and three large (orange) reusable anchors, along with 10 thin (brown) and 5 thick (black) tire plugs. The refill kits are $6, forego the anchors, come with 10 tubeless plugs, and use vulcanized rubber seals. Crankbrothers made a great video explaining the ins and outs of the new system.
