In Conversation

Exchanges and ideas that caught our attention in the site’s conversation section…

Tariff Trouble in Effect

Nic: Throughout the process of writing our feature on what uncertainties Trump’s tariff threats would bring to the bike industry, a lot changed. The very scope of piece shifted as I wrote it, and much has shifted further still since we published. With all the chaos the current administration has brought to a number of industries, it seems the first tangible signs of these seemingly unexamined executive orders have started to rear their ugly head.

Temple Cycles Adventure Disc 1

Earlier this week, I received an email from Temple Bikes encouraging their customers to “lock in” their prices before the coming week, as they were set to rise by 10 to 15% in the coming months. It’s the most obvious sign of the coming difficulties free trade will face, as countries that once commonly exchanged goods start to nickel and dime one another. So, if you’ve been eyeing up a bike from a company based in a nation that isn’t your own, it seems like now might be the time to pull the trigger.

The video is in Spanish, but you can turn on auto-generated subtitles in the video settings.

Magical Methow

Following the release of their new e-gravel bike, Salsa created a short video of their Tributary in bikepacking mode. While its more “glampacking” than bikepacking, given the subjects are riding from hut to hut, it’s an interesting preview of what they see as the use case for their electrically powered gravel/bikepacking rig.
