The White Rim is a 100-mile loop within Canyonlands National Park on a mix of slickrock, graded gravel, dirt roads, semi-technical rocky doubletrack, and thick sandy bottoms. Between magnificent geologic features, massive views, and campsites under the stars, it’s a popular two to three-day bikepacking route. It’s also on the radar for ultra-endurance athletes seeking a training ride or aiming to break a record.
On May 2nd, 2025, professional cyclist Hannah Otto set off to beat the women’s record on the White Rim in Utah. The previous record was held by Hannah Wood, who completed the loop in 6 hours and 51 minutes in 2021. Hannah Otto was driven after setting record times on the Whole Enchilada and Kokopelli trails in 2022 and 2024, respectively. The White Rim was the final piece of the iconic Moab Triple Crown Challenge. Hannah’s final stats included 100.56 miles of riding in 6 hours, 36 minutes, 51 seconds, with 6,252 feet of elevation gain.
“I absolutely fell in love with Moab when I moved to Utah in 2018. When we worked to develop the Triple Crown, I wanted to marry three iconic routes that feature awe-inspiring landscapes while demanding the multi-dimensional skills needed to be an all-around mountain biker. The Whole Enchilada rewards an athlete with exceptional technical skills, while the Kokopelli rewards the athlete who is durable in both mind and body, and the White Rim rewards power. Together, these routes make up the best of mountain biking. I want to encourage everyone to tackle this challenge, whether you do it fast or slow, it’s bound to challenge you, to change you, to show you just how strong you are, and to leave you more in love with your bike and the world you live in.” – Hannah Otto
