As seen in our coverage of the 2024 edition of Concours de Machines in France last week, we’re taking a second look at the ingenious collapsible ATB from Cycles Khelonys. Explore some of its many clever features and find a larger gallery of photos here…
Among the bikes Nicolas Joly shot in his coverage of this year’s Concours de Machines bike show in France (find his posts linked in the Further Reading grid below) was a stunner from Cycles Khelonys of Epinal, France, which we think is worth examining in more detail. In keeping with the 2024 show’s theme of travel/bikepacking-ready designs, makers Yann Babelian and Noémie Maugui built a frame that can collapse into a compact form for train journeys. The judges took notice, and their bike took third in this year’s show.

Khelonys’ Concours de Machines ATB features a fully rigid steel frame, burly 27.5″ wheels/tires, a striking handmade truss fork, a unique bar/stem combo, quick-release bags, protective guards and gussets to prevent paint wear, a rear light that doubles as a bottle opener, a stem cap that can adjust spoke tension, and a smart system that enables it to partially disassemble into a petite package. Both wheels attach securely to either side of the bike, the rear derailleur and chain flatten neatly out of the way, the fork locks into place, and the handlebars can be affixed parallel with the fork.
