The KNIPEX Slim Knips is a new tool from the German company, featuring a host of features ideal for at-home mechanics. Discover all the details of this small but mighty tool below…
German tool company KNIPEX has just released a new cable cutter jam-packed with features suited to precise cable management. The KNIPEX Slimp Knips feature a locking mechanism that lets users tighten cable ties without fully cutting them, an asymmetrical grip design for tight spaces, and a small loop for tethering, so the tool never gets lost.
In addition to holding the tool closed while on the go, the locking mechanism allows users to pull on the plastic cable tie ends without cutting them by preventing the pliers from fully closing. It’s an interesting bit of design that serves multiple purposes and appears to work great for shoring up the most tedious aspects of cable management.
Available in polished surgical or burnished steel, KNIPEX says the main difference between the two is that the surgical steel is rust-proof and suitable for copper conductors up to 1.3 mm, while the burnished steel is more robust and suitable for copper conductors up to Ø 1.6 mm. Though that doesn’t necessarily apply to bikes, it’s something to factor in when thinking about how one might use it for bike cables. The pliers also come in two lengths, 150 and 158mm, and will be sold individually and with a plastic holster. Retail pricing isn’t available for the Slim Knips yet, but we expect these to be readily available by August of this year for around $50.
