The Kona Humuhumunukunukuapua’a, or Humu for short, is a limited re-release of a classic that benefits an Indigenous women’s charity. Featuring a custom paint job from the daughter of Kona’s co-founder, this is a cool klunker with a purpose. For more on the batch of just 200 bikes, find details below…
Drawing on the brand’s Hawaiian naming conventions, the updated Kona Humu is a limited-edition release with deep roots within the company. Originally released in the late ‘90s, the Humuhumunukunukuapua’a, named after a reef triggerfish, was a double-top-tubed mountain bike with tons of style. Re-released for 2026, the brand is limiting the new Humu to just 200 bikes.
Featuring a paint job by artist Alex Heilbron, daughter of co-founder Jake Heilbron, her use of repeating patterns blurs the line between hand-made craft and digital code and makes her an ideal person for the re-release of the Humu. More than just a fun cruiser based on the original model, $20 from each sale of the 200 numbered bikes will be donated to Indigenous Women Outdoors, a charity that brings Indigenous women together through outdoor access.
The new Humu is built up as a modern cruiser with 1x FSA Comet cranks, 18T singlespeed cog, Tektro disc brakes, Kona Cruiser bars, and 29 x 2.25″ WTB tires. The bike has sliding dropouts, boost spacing, and tweaked geometry that Kona says offers comfort and stability for trips down to the bar and jaunts on your local bike path. The 2026 Kona Humu retails for $1,700 and is available in five sizes.
