Released this summer, the Kona Unity is one of the most interesting bikepacking bikes in recent memory. Kona just announced a new “Gloss-Metallic Everglade” color for the otherwise unchanged model. Check it out here…

Bikes like the Kona Unity don’t come around often. With its massive frame triangle, mixed-wheel, plus-tire configuration, unique front rack, and geometry unlike anything else in Kona’s lineup, the Unity is one of the most interesting bikes we’ve seen in years. Logan shared his thoughts when it launched over the summer, praising its rigid-specific design, front rack, stability, and impressive storage capacity. If you haven’t read it, check out his review here.

Kona Unity Review

Here’s an excerpt from Logan’s closing thoughts: “What makes the Unity so compelling is that Kona took several individually sensible ideas—a massive frame triangle, a really well-done frame-mounted front rack, somewhat progressive rigid mountain bike geometry, and a plus-tire mullet setup—and blended them into a package that feels surprisingly cohesive. More than once, I expected some glaring compromise or quirky behavior to reveal itself, but it never did, aside from the front tire oversteer. The Unity is undeniably eccentric, yet it rides with a level of confidence and refinement that suggests Kona spent a great deal of time thinking through how all of its unusual pieces would work together.”

While Kona isn’t releasing any updates to the Unity, they added a new color option alongside the existing “Gloss Future Dusk” version Logan tested. The new “Gloss Metallic Everglade” colorway comes with “Aspen” colored decals and is otherwise identical to the original Kona Unity. You still get the headtube-mounted front rack, a 29 x 3.0″ front wheel and a 27.5 x 3.0″ rear wheel, hydraulic brakes, and a mechanical 1×11 drivetrain with a Shimano XT derailleur, RaceFace cranks, and a Shimano XT 11-50T cassette. The complete build doesn’t include a dropper post, but there is internal routing for those who want to swap out the rigid seatpost.
