Chaffee County, Colorado’s position in the Arkansas River Valley blesses it with warmer, clearer weather than the surrounding area through the winter—a phenomenon known as a banana belt. This area includes the riding hubs of Salida and Buena Vista, both of which are home to several shorter local bikepacking routes and stops along the Colorado 14ers Loop and Colorado Trail route. Salsa’s second episode in their For The Love of Dirt series showcases some key players in Chaffee County, Colorado, including Joe Parkin from the Push & Pull Cafe and Buena Vista Bike Company, Jason Shelman of Subculture Cyclery, and our friend Lane Wilson from Oveja Negra.
