Luisa Werner may be a relatively new to the world ultra-endurance racing, but the 28-year-old is off to an undeniably impressive start. Last year, she signed up for her first solo and self-supported race, the Italy Divide, and was the first woman racer to finish. Shortly after, she became the first woman finisher of the 2022 Race Across France, followed by yet another first woman and seventh overall finish of the Three Peaks Bike Race. There seems to be a trend here. If that wasn’t enough, Luisa signed up for the 2022 Badlands event in Spain and was the first woman to finish with an impressive time of just 63 hours, 40 minutes, despite the rugged conditions on the challenging 750-kilometer route.
Luisa’s first event of 2023 was the Atlas Mountain Race, and it looks like she’ll continue her streak of finishing first this year as well. Earlier yesterday morning, she became the first woman to finish the event, taking 22nd place overall with a time of 5 days, 19 hours, 9 minutes. While we have’t heard much about her race yet, we do know that she finished with one aero bar after losing the other in a crash, a head lamp zip-tied into place, and only five working gears gears due to some sort of rear derailleur malfunction. Well done, Luisa!
