The Maine Trail Coalition just announced its rail-trail plan for 250 miles of inter-connected, off-road trails throughout the state. Learn more here…

Announced by the non-profit Maine Trails Coalition (MTC), The Maine Rail-Trail Plan (see full PDF) calls for the construction of 13 specific rail-trail projects over the next 10 years, and five additional projects in the following decade. According to the Maine Trail Coalition, “each of these projects connects with, extends, and regionalizes existing multi-use trail infrastructure.” These 18 projects would add nearly 250 miles of inter-connected, mixed-use off-road trails, which will be an interesting proposition for bikepacking routes in an otherwise challenging area that’s often obstructed via private logging roads.
