MicroSHIFT’s $130 Advent 9-speed drivetrain received a few promising updates today, including some trickle down tech from their higher end Advent X group and a wider range 11-46T cassette. Find all the details here…
Launched as an affordable and durable alternative to mainstream 10, 11, and 12-speed drivetrains, the MicroSHIFT Advent 9-speed group definitely looks promising. With a total price of about $125 for the shifter, derailleur, and 11-42T cassette, it’s hard to argue with that kind of value. However, the Taiwanese brand clearly saw room for improvement, and today has announced some major updates to both the Advent 9 shifter and cassette. And, despite the upgrades, the updated Advent 9 group still retains a great value (about $130 for the new shifter, derailleur, and wider 11-46t cassette). Find the details on both below.
Advent 9 Trail Trigger Pro Shifter
The Advent 9 shifter has been redesigned from the ground up with an attempt to improve ergonomics and create smoother shifting action. In addition, the clamp was redesigned to have less bulk to avoid interference with brake levers. To accomplish all this, the Advent 9 shifter borrows several features found in their higher end Advent X Trail Trigger Pro, such as a silicone traction pad on the thumb lever and a much more streamlined design.
The Advent 9 Trail Trigger Pro retails for $29.99 USD. Find the feature list below and more info here.
- Compatible with microSHIFT ADVENT 9-speed drivetrains only.
- Internal cartridge bearings allow for light lever throw and smoother actuation.
- Ergonomics redesigned to adjust the placement of the shift lever.
- Silicon traction pad for added grip in bad weather.
- Not compatible with Shimano or SRAM.
Advent 9-Speed 11-46T Cassette
Although you won’t be seeing a 52T cassette in MicroSHIFT’s Advent range just yet, the new 11-46T option definitely helps make the drivetrain a little more practical from a bikepacking perspective. It wasn’t that long ago when we considered a 46T cog massive, and it can still offer a great climbing gear for some parts of the world. The Advent 9 11-46T cassette is made from forged carbon steel cogs with optimized gear steps (11-13-15-18-21-24-30-37-46) for an even-stepped gearing.
The cassette retails for $39.99 USD. Learn more here.
Advent 9-Speed Derailleur
MicroSHIFT’s 9-speed derailleur hasn’t seen any updates, but since we haven’t covered it on the site before, here is a little rundown of what it offers. It’s available in both a clutch and non-clutch version, and the clutch option uses a ratchet-and-pawl design that is fully serviceable and adjustable. Like the entire Advent line, the rear derailleur is not compatible with Shimano or SRAM, and only works with MicroSHIFT’s 9-speed shifters. The clutch model retails for $59.99 USD.
