Just announced, the microSHIFT ADVENT X Ver.2 rear derailleur features a 20mm shorter cage with an improved design that provides more chain wrap, better chain retention, increased stability, and can help prolong the life of your cassette. Learn more about what’s new here…
First launched in spring 2020, microSHIFT’s ADVENT X is a lightweight, modern, and relatively inexpensive 10-speed drivetrain built around an 11-48T cassette with a 436% range. It has received a positive reception in the two years since its release, and microSHIFT just announced an updated second version of the ADVENT X rear derailleur. Based on feedback from mountain bike riders who often pedal over aggressive terrain, the microSHIFT ADVENT X Ver.2 rear derailleur features an updated cage design that they say is more capable than ever.
According to microSHIFT, the new and improved rear derailleur design shifts better than its predecessor, even when riding hard. It has a 20mm shorter cage and a revised pulley position, offering more chain wrap on the cassette and derailleur pulleys, resulting in superior shifting response, cassette durability, and chain retention. To make this possible, microSHIFT moved the guide pulley forward and the tension pulley back, resulting in more of an “S” curve as the chain snakes its way through the derailleur. As it shifts, more teeth are engaged, enabling it to find a ramp on the cassette in a shorter time. The gap between the tension pulley and the large cassette cogs has been reduced from 15mm to just 6mm.
Under high-torque conditions, engaging more teeth can help extend your cassette’s life, and microSHIFT says the ADVENT X Ver.2 RD is especially designed to reduce wear on the cassette’s smallest cogs, which often see the most use. The 20mm shorter cage is more stable and less prone to bounce around on landing, whether you’re riding down a rowdy trail or just dropping off a curb around the city.
In typical microSHIFT form, the latest parts are compatible with older ones, and the ADVENT X Ver.2 rear derailleur works with existing ADVENT X shifters and cassettes. Note that the installation process has changed slightly, so anyone upgrading their ADVENT X rear derailleur from the first version will want to head over to microSHIFT’s site to watch the short installation video.
The microSHIFT ADVENT X Ver.2 rear derailleur won’t be available until August, but the good news is that the price is unchanged, and it’ll still retail for $77 in the US.
