Featuring rubber from FSC-certified sources, the new Pirelli Scorpion XC tires boast a re-worked casing and sidewall profile, two distinct marathon and race models, updated tread pattern, and more…

The new Pirelli Scorpion XC tires don’t just feature some new technology with regard to their construction and design, but they incorporate what are supposedly ecologically friendly materials as well. Made from FSC-certified natural rubber, that’s to say—rubber from responsibly managed forests that look to protect biodiversity, workers’ rights, and local communities—the Pirelli XC Scorpion tires sport a variety of new features across two distinct models.

The Pirelli XC M tire is the brand’s marathon and light trail use tire. Yielding less rolling resistance, lighter weight, and greater volume than prior iterations, the XC M measures out to a true 29 x 2.4″ on 30mm rims, per Pirelli. Prioritizing grip and control, the XC M’s knobs are supposedly great at shedding mud and still provide adequate grip when things get rowdy.

Pirelli’s XC RC tire is their race-specific compound designed for low rolling resistance and speed. In their internal testing, Pirelli said it reduced rolling resistance by 7 percent compared to the previous model. Said to be the ideal tread for rocky terrain and dirt, this new design features a more squared profile on the shoulder for greater confidence in wet conditions and when leaning.

Both Pirelli XC models come in 29 x 2.2″ and 2.4″ sizes in a race or sport compound. Each tire can also be selected in either Lite or ProWall casing, the later using a nylon sidewall for better puncture protection. The ProWall also has two TPI versions—a 60 and 120 TPI variant. The Pirelli XC tires retail for $100 USD and can be found at your local Pirelli dealer.
