After months of prototyping, Baltimore-based PTAP Designs just launched the Chonker, a versatile handlebar or seat bag that’s available in super limited quantities. Learn more about the Chonker here, and find out how you can get in on the first batch of 10 bags…

Our friend Dan over at PTAP Designs (whose bags you may recognize from our recent Collective Rewards) just sent along details about his latest product, the Chonker, a versatile bag that’s designed to be equally well suited as a handlebar bag or seat pack. Following months of prototyping and testing, pre-orders for the first batch of just 10 bags opened yesterday and will run through September 8th (or until all 10 have been sold).

The Chonker has a 14L capacity and interior dimensions of 12″ x 7″ x 7″. A removable semi-rigid HDPE liner helps the bag keep its shape, and its tapered side pockets fold down flat when they’re not in use. It attaches via a pair of Voile Nano Straps and a birch dowel adds support. While it’s not waterproof, its fully enclosed design means your precious cargo should remain dry unless you’re riding through driving rains. This initial run of PTAP Designs Chonkers is available in five colors: Black, Paint Splatter, Emerald, Black MultiCam, and TROPICOOL (as pictured). All color options will feature a solid black base, as shown here.

Note that PTAP Designs recommends allowing a minimum of 9.5” clearance from the top of your handlebars to the tire when using the Chonker as a front bag without a rack. It measures around 14.5″ wide at its widest point, so be sure you can fit it comfortably up front if you’re running drop bars. When used as a rear bag, PTAP recommends using a saddlebag support rack and a saddle that has loops.

The Chonker retails for $170, and the first batch of orders will ship in mid-September. Head over to PTAPDesigns.com to find additional details or pre-order a Chonker of your own… while they last!
