Oregon’s Randi Jo Fabrications just announced a small update and four new colorways of their beautiful waxed canvas hip packs. See what’s new and peek at the latest crop of Portage colors here…
Beloved bag maker Randi Jo Fabrications in Oregon updated their take on the ubiquitous hip pack today, swapping out the previous 6.6-ounce roll-top fabric for a more durable 7-ounce sailcloth fabric and unveiling four cheerful new colors. The Portage Hip Pack maintains its classic waxed canvas construction and low-profile, no-fuss design that’s free of bulky pockets, unnecessary hardware, or flapping straps. Amid many options on the market, it’s a distinctly good-looking pack that’s now available in six color combinations to suit a wide range of styles.
Perfectly sized to carry a DSLR camera and a light layer, the Randi Jo Portage Hip Pack features an expandable roll-top with snap and Fidlock magnetic buckle closures, a wide 1 1/2″ webbing waist strap with two adjustment points, MOLLE rear webbing for attaching to the handlebars, a hidden back pocket to stow straps when using as a bar bag, and interior and exterior zippered pockets. The Portage is constructed from 10.10- and 7-ounce canvas and features a diamond-ripstop-coated lining with 1/8″ closed-cell foam insulation that helps protect cargo and maintain its shape. It’ll fit up to a 40” waist, and custom sizes are available.
The Randi Jo Portage weighs around 12.8 ounces, measures 11” wide by 5’5” deep (with an expandable 5” roll-top), and sells for $125. All bags are made to order, with an 8-10-week timeline, by the small family crew of Randi, Joan, and Eric.
