Restrap’s UK-made Switch Panniers were announced last fall in a diminutive 5-liter size (read our review) that packed in a number of compelling features but left some readers wishing for more capacity. Restrap was already on it, and in conjunction with today’s release of the Switch Rack comes the Restrap Switch Pannier 10L, an upscaled version of the bag launched in September.
The new Restrap Switch Pannier 10L features the same roll-top, 100% waterproof construction with hardwearing, waterproof external fabrics and seam-sealed inner found on the 5-liter bags. It also retains the Hiplok x Restrap Switch fitment system, which uses an injection-molded clip that quickly and securely attaches to a corresponding bracket. This unique system from Hiplok and Restrap attaches to any standard two-bolt bottle boss—commonly found on rigid forks and increasingly on racks. This how-to video walks through the new bags and mounting system in detail.
The 10-liter Switch Panniers weigh 520 grams each, including fitment hardware, and Restrap recommends a maximum load of 3 kilograms (6.6 pounds), including the bag, owing to the standard bottle boss mount rating of 1.5 kilograms per bolt. They’re priced at $119.99 (£79.99/€95.99) per side. As with all Restrap products, these new Yorkshire-made bags come with a lifetime guarantee against defects in materials and workmanship.
Over the summer, regular contributors Alan Danby and Britt Walker put some Restrap bags to the test in the Dolomites, where they created the video above. Alan was running the 5L and 10L panniers, and Britt used a pair of 5L panniers, along with a few of the brand’s other bags. Beyond showcasing the Switch Panniers in use, the short video beautifully captures a day in the life of two bikepackers pedaling through one of Europe’s iconic mountain ranges.
