This year’s pre-order window for Rivendell Sam Hillborne framesets opens at noon PST today, November 5th. The Sam Hillborne is the independent brand’s all-road-ready model, built for pavement, dirt, and gravel. As they put it, “If you’re skilled and have good judgement and fattish knobby tires, you can ride the SAM where you shouldn’t.” Framesets will clear up to 48mm tires without fenders, and they’re designed for V-brakes or cantilevers, have 135mm rear spacing, sport a 1″ threaded fork, and boast braze-ons aplenty, rack and fender mounts, and a kickstand plate. Frames are specced for 650B or 700C wheels, depending on size.
From Rivendell: “The Sam Hillborne is a classically styled frame with sweated-over graphics. The frame joints are lugged, the fork has a crown, and they’re all our own designed investment castings, starting from rocks, which are made into metal, and shaped with precision and beauty by a process developed in China ten thousand years ago.” I actually owned one of these a few years back and can attest to their beautifully detailed design and construction. Sam Hillborne framesets are made in Taiwan and cost $1,750 USD. This batch is available in Sage and Mustard colors (pictured here) in sizes 48, 51, 54, 57, and 60. Delivery is expected in December.
