The original Mr. Fusion seat pack was conceived in 2013 while Scott Felter, Porcelain Rocket’s founder, was fatpacking the Canning Stock Route in Australia. While it has been updated a few times since then, the concept remains relatively unchanged. It’s made up of a CNC-machined aluminum seatpost collar bracket that slides onto the seatpost, anchoring a 4130 Chromoly loop support. A fabric harness slides over the loop, and compression straps loop over the saddle rails to complete the system. Aside from being impressively stable and wag-free, having a removable dry bag makes unpacking and re-packing at camp much easier than a fixed seat pack.
As of today, Rockgeist has added the option to run the Mr. Fusion with a dropper post. The dropper version includes a non-marking nylon collar that replaces the standard aluminum one. Rockgeist also includes a rubber sleeve to protect the dropper shaft from abrasion where the velcro strap attaches. The nylon collar can be installed without removing the seatpost, which makes installation and swapping between bikes less of a hassle.
Though the new collar allows for dropper post function, it significantly limits the travel of the dropper post. Rockgeist recommends installing the dropper collars about 4-5″ below the rails for maximum seat pack stability. The dropper post kit is available to purchase alongside the Mr. Fusion seat pack or as an add-on for those who already own one. They currently have collars for 27.2mm and 30.9mm dropper posts, with 31.6mm collars arriving this fall.
