Although no one definitively knows what effects the newly announced tariffs will have on the cycling industry, Stephen Fitzgerald from Rodeo Labs put together nearly 5,000 words sharing his perspective on the current situation in the latest Rodeo Journal. Find a link to read it here…
I’ve always admired Rodeo Labs’ founder, Stephen Fitzgerald’s ability to express what’s on his mind. He has never made claims of being an expert in the subjects he covers in the Rodeo Labs blog, the Rodeo Journal, or here on the website, but he tells it straight and in a way that’s easy to understand. Last week, we shared Jan Heine from Rene Herse Cycles’ summary of Trump’s newly announced tariffs and how they’ll likely affect the cycling industry, and Stephen has now added his voice to the mix of folks chiming in on the subject.
In Stephen’s piece, he shares how disjointed and confusing the new tariff laws are, why cyclists (and humans) should care, and why small margins mean no bike company is safe. Stephen explains, “Death, taxes, and dead bike companies are the only certainties in life.” He provides a real-world example of how bike prices could change with the new tariffs in place and what it means for Rodeo Labs’ pricing if incoming inventory is subject to the new taxes.
