Stayer Cycles in the UK offers a week-long framebuilding 101 course that culminates with students building their own frame. Stayer’s latest video features Louis, of their students, and the process of building his gravel bike. Watch it and learn more about the course here…
Framebuilding 101 with Stayer Cycles is a week-long course that teaches students about the tools, techniques, and skills needed to make a frame, starting with the design, tube selection, and fit, and eventually making the frame over five days at the Stayer workshop in Leytonstone, East London. The first course was offered last October, and they schedule the courses between all the regular work going on, so there aren’t many slots each year.
Stayer just shared a video of one of their students, Louis, who signed up for their last Framebuilding 101 course. Watch the seven-minute video below for a look at what you can expect from the course, and see Louis put his new skills to work.
“We put a lot of effort into making the week fun as well as instructive. It’s suitable for those looking to start the climb up the 10,000 hour ladder as much as it is for those looking for a bucket-list experience building your very own bike frame from the tubes up! The course is designed to bring you in at the ground floor and so is very much a NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY affair.” —Stayer Cycles
The course focuses on brass brazing and silver soldering frame construction methods. Materials costs will be additional to the course costs. As a guide, frame materials (tubing, dropouts and brazing rod) will cost around £450 but, within the constraints of the taught skills, Stayer is very much open to your choice, so it can be altered to fit your budget. The course itself costs £1,500 (inc. tax). Upcoming dates: 27-31 January 2025, 24-28 February 2025, 21-25 April 2025, 19-23 May 2025.
