Designed in collaboration with Ronnie Romance, the new Stomplox Trail Worm shoes are a lightweight, barefoot-style shoe with interchangeable insoles for traveling by foot or bike. Find everything you need to know about the Kickstarter campaign here…
Stomplox is a cycling shoe brand from Japan with a focus on casual, everyday use. They weren’t available in North America until Ron’s Bikes started importing them. Since then, they’ve collaborated on a special version of their lace-up clipless riding shoe, the Stomplox Slacks, and Ronnie Romance has become somewhat of an unofficial poster boy for the shoe company.
The latest collaboration between Stomplox and Ronnie Romance is known as the Stomplox Trail Worm (Ronnie Romance Signature Model). At its core, the Trail Worm is a barefoot shoe featuring a thin, highly flexible sole and a zero heel-drop design that keeps the heel and toe at the same level. The idea is the shoe can move with your foot, it adapts to the terrain, and allows your toes to spread naturally.
The Trail Worm is made in Japan from nubuck leather uppers and smooth leather heels. The sole is repairable and replaceable through Stomplox, and they designed a custom tread pattern inspired by Ultradynamico tires. The Trail Worm includes two interchangable insoles: a cork insole for running and hiking and a reinforced plastic insole for stability while cycling. Other features include a fully perforated tongue, a breathable mesh lining, durable boot-style lace hardware, and the soles are firmly stitched to the uppers.
The Stomplox Trail Worms are available in eight sizes (6-13) and launch today via a Kickstarter campaign with a goal of raising ¥1,000,000 (~$6,500 USD). Purchasing the shoes through the campaign allows you to take advantage of discounted pricing, ranging from 10 to 15% off retail pricing. Production shoes are expected to arrive in March/April 2025.
