The ToxicWorks Cargo Bike Kit is a compact set of custom-fabricated bits that enable users to turn almost any bike into a more capable, load-carrying machine. With no necessary mounting points, this kit transforms any bike into a mini cargo bike. Dive in for more details below…

Spotted via Russ at Path Less Pedaled, the ToxicWorks Cargo Bike Kit allows user to attach a platform-style front rack to any bike that has the ability to fit it. Without the need for native mounting points or official loading capacity, this small kit gives many bikes the ability to carry a pretty significant load. While that isn’t always advisable for smaller bikes and those that were never intended to hold much weight aside from the rider, the kit looks like a cool way to make your bike significantly more capable.

Per the creator at ToxicWorks, a small bike shop in Japan, “You attach aluminum stays to the head tube and down tube with metal bands, then connect your favorite basket or rack to turn your bike into a semi-cargo bike! This means, unlike a regular basket or rack attached to the bike, the carrier is fixed directly to the frame and is not connected to the handlebars, so it won’t shake around when you’re carrying something. Even when you load luggage in a basket or rack, the handling remains stable, making it safe and comfortable.”

It’s an interesting design, and one that utilizes a combination of relatively common hardware bits, along with a few custom-cut aluminum parts to make a solid kit. On their blog, the creator of the kit puts it on a fixed gear with what appears to be a carbon fork. So, it’s clear they trust their design. The kit comes with two aluminum stays, two frame fixing bands, four L-shaped stays, and four rack fixing brackets. It comes in at 670 grams and is available in black or silver. It can be purchased via ToxicWorks for ¥16,500 ($110 USD).
