The wildly popular Transition Spur returns with a second generation that stays true to the original’s downcountry roots while adding some thoughtful updates. Spur V2 brings in-frame storage, a geometry-adjusting flip chip, and cleaner cable routing, along with subtle tweaks to the frame and geometry. Find details and the tech video here…

It’s been over five years since the original Transition Spur was released. It was an incredibly popular bike and probably one of the first in the short-travel category to push the “downcountry” moniker. Transition just dropped the Spur V2 with some welcome changes.

Broadly speaking, the Transition Spur V2 doesn’t stray too far from the original. It features 120mm of rear travel and 130mm up front, paired with Transition’s signature progressive geometry. The main changes are in the feature set, which now includes in-frame storage, a geometry flip chip, full internal cable routing, and a few other modifications. Here’s the list from Transition.

  • C.H.I.P.S (Changes Height Independently from Progression Setting): Fine-tune your geometry with these simple, robust chips that adjust the head tube angle by 0.5° and the bottom bracket height by 7mm.
  • B.O.O.M Box: Internal frame storage designed to hold your burrito—or other ride essentials. Two included bags help organize tools, snacks, and other small items.
  • Internal Cable Routing: Fully guided tubes and clean head tube cable ports make internal routing easier while keeping cables quiet.
  • Size-Specific Chainstays: To maintain balanced handling across sizes, the Spur uses 435mm chainstays on SM/MD frames and 440mm chainstays on L/XL frames.
  • Loam Hat: Built-in protection shields the main pivot from dirt and debris, helping extend bearing life and reduce maintenance.
  • Hidden Linkage Hardware: The seatstay-to-rocker junction now features concealed hardware, creating a cleaner frame line while removing a common debris collection point. Access from the inside allows deeper tool engagement to reduce stripping or rounding bolts.

Transition also made a few tweaks to the Spur’s geometry, though the changes are subtle. One of the most noticeable updates is a significantly shorter seat tube, which opens the door for running longer-travel dropper posts. As mentioned in their specs above, the chainstay length is now size-specific. Small and medium frames use 434/436mm stays, while large and XL frames stretch slightly to 439/441mm. Meanwhile, the seat tube angle has been slightly steepened. Up front, the Spur now comes with 130mm of fork travel across all models. The head tube angle remains at 66°, with the option to slacken it further to 65.5° using the flip chip at the shock.
