When we reported on the three 32-inch bikes on display at the MADE bike show this summer, one thing was clear: Maxxis was producing a 32 x 2.4″ Aspen tire. It was slightly less clear what component manufacturers would be next to offer 32-inch parts so more framebuilders and brands could experiment with the new platform. It’s not surprising to see a brand like Velocity step up to bat, given that they manufacture their rims in the USA and can presumably move to production much more quickly than brands that make their products overseas.
Velocity just announced a 32-inch version of their popular Blunt 35 rim, a 35mm external/30.2mm internal width mountain bike rim suitable for 2″ to 2.6″ tires. They are clear that the Blunt 35 is not an enduro-rated rim, but “rugged trails with roots and rocks and the occasional drop” are good to go. The 32″ Blunt 35 is made from US-sourced 6061-T6 aluminum and is available with 28, 32, 36, and 40 spoke holes in black, silver, or polished finishes. It’s a disc-brake-only rim and is expected to ship in early December. Velocity also has matching spokes and hubs available if you’re on the hunt for a complete wheel.
The 32-inch Blunt 35 rim costs $228 each and can be purchased directly at VelocityUSA.com or through your local dealer.
