Austria

Weekend Snapshot

By Carlos Silvera

I was invited to a wedding in Serbia, and I decided to go over there by bike. My journey started in Brussels, and I decided to go bikepacking trying to create an off-road route that connects it with the Balkans. This photo was taken in Austria, at the top of a climb in the The Neue Heilbronner Hütte. The shelter is located at an altitude of 2,300 meters in the midst of the impressive alpine mountain landscape of the Verwall Mountains between Vorarlberg and Tyrol. I didn’t expected to encounter snow, which was at the same terrible and also wonderful.

Crested Butte, Colorado

Weekend Snapshot

By Mac Murchison

This weekend, I gave a friend an epic introduction to bikepacking via the Tilton Traverse out of Crested Butte, Colorado. Anticipation over the physical demand of the trip gave rise to a nervousness and uncertainty about whether the route would be too tough to enjoy, or worse, whether we would finish at all. Following the final climb and much celebration of our achievement, we took a quiet moment to prepare for the righteous 16-mile descent back into town.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Weekend Snapshot

By Alex Gauthier

Years ago, I traveled through Southeast Brazil and did some beautiful coastal and mountain hikes. I also saw people cycling on the beaches of southern São Paulo. Since then, I’ve been telling myself I would come back by bike one day. I later learned about the Caminho da Mata Atlântica, a long-distance trail currently being implemented to connect protected areas from the state of Rio de Janeiro to Rio Grande do Sul. And it is in large part bikeable! I thus decided to create a bike route strongly inspired by it. This picture shows the first segment of forest singletrack in the Desengano State Park.
