Today’s Weekend Snapshot finds folks from our worldwide bikepacking community pedaling through the mountains of Spain, the vast expanses of the American Southwest, and the muddy byways of England. Take a peek at all three vignettes and share a photo from one of your recent rides here…

We showcase three distinct takes on winter riding in today’s Weekend Snapshot, sharing a trio of reader-submitted scenes from the United States, Spain, and the United Kingdom. Start the week with a look back at what a few folks from our community were up to during their recent time away, and please consider contributing to a future edition by sharing a photo from one of your getaways on two wheels!

Weekend Snapshot

By Steve Makin

In spite of the dreary start to the day, it all turned out fine: a good gang of cycling reprobates, good coffee and breakfast buns, very muddy trails, a walk to see the collapsed canal, pizza and cider, lots of inane chatter (as is our way) tons of laughter, and then of course the headwinds along the home straight. Thanks to all who made it what it was!

Emily and I headed down south to Las Cruces, New Mexico, to meet up with Joe Cruz and Willie Hatfield for a week-long ramble around the Monumental Loop 2.0 route. I had high expectations, but I think I speak for everyone when I say it was one of the most stunning and topographically diverse bikepacking routes out there. That, paired with the welcoming and supportive attitude of the local cycling community, made for a truly unforgettable trip. Hats off to Matt Mason’s development of the route!
