Today’s Weekend Snapshot takes us on a tour of the Spanish-speaking world in three parts. Join fellow readers on their bikepacking journeys around Mexico, Spain, and Peru and contribute to our community-driven Monday morning series by sharing a shot from one of your recent rides here…
By pure chance, this edition of Weekend Snapshot features reader-submitted reports from a trio of Spanish-speaking countries. Though they share languages, the places in today’s post feature wildly different landscapes (and, of course, cultures). Join fellow readers as they pedal around Mexico’s Baja coast, the high passes of the Peru Divide, and the colorful hills of Spain. Once you’ve checked out this week’s vignettes, we hope you’ll stick around to share a shot from one of your getaways using the form below and explore the related posts linked in the Further Reading grid.
Comunidad Valenciana, Spain

After a rainy bail on the Altravesur, I was in search of sunshine. Heading south from Gandía, I found exactly that in the hills of Parque Natural de la Sierra de Mariola. Historic towns and old castles, bocadillos and alcohol-free beer for breakfast and lunch, and the kind of tranquil riding the Spanish backcountry is so capable of providing. As it looks like I managed to scout a satisfactory route here, I may be able to share it on the map soon.
Baja Divide, Mexico

Its rocky slopes, sandy lines, and arid hell pushed us to our limits both physically and mentally. But for our part, our motto of “Fast Won’t Last,” which has been with us for eight months now, encourages us to never give up, whatever the difficulty.
Peru

I’m currently a week into the Peru Divide. Despite the gentle grades of Peru’s mountain roads, pedaling a bike at 16,000 feet (4,800 meters) is just too much. As the ancient proverb goes, “If you’re not pushing your bike, are you really bikepacking?”
Send Us Your Weekend Snapshot
We’ll be selecting three photos per week to feature in Weekend Snapshot. Send yours along for consideration, and if it’s selected, we’ll be in touch! Note: We prefer 3:2 ratio landscape-oriented photos.
