Another fall weekend, another bike adventure! Took a good friend out for her first bikepacking cabin trip at the Upper Angel Creek Cabin outside of Fairbanks. Lots of uphill, some pretty fun downhill, ice-cold water crossings, one lost shoe (in a creek), a whole lot of backtracking to the trailhead for a replacement pair of shoes, and countless stories to tell now. It was a 10/10 weekend for sure.

Six years ago, during our first visit to Powell River, Emily and I scouted the Powell River Sampler route with our friends Natalie, Tom, and Martin. We took on the optional (and very challenging) hike-a-bike to the cabin on Walt Hill, and Emily said she’d never do it again. This weekend, we caved and tackled the route for the second time, using public transit to shuttle us and our bikes south to Saltery Bay. The hike-a-bike is just as hard as we remember, maybe harder, but the views from up top are always worth it.
