Adding to their clipless range, Wolf Tooth just launched a new large-platform pedal they say is ideal for aggressive trail riding. The brand’s new SHIFT pedals feature a generous platform and an adjustable Q-factor. Get to know all the details below…
The Wolf Tooth SHIFT pedals are gravity-oriented clipless offerings that the brand says they designed for support and confidence during downhill, enduro, and aggressive trail riding. The pedals feature a 1,201-square-millimeter platform with an open center between its SPD cages for better mud shedding. According to Wolf Tooth, no other SPD-compatible gravity pedal has a platform this large.
The SHIFT pedals feature eight stainless steel pins on the front and rear of the platform. Their CNC-machined bodies are made of 6061-T6 aluminum, with extended platform frames in the front and rear for additional connection with the shoe. The pedals use stainless steel for the binding cages and share the same bearing and bushing design as the popular Waveform aluminum pedals. Like the CTRL, ALT, DEL series, they also have an adjustable Q factor through the modular bearing configuration. Each pedal is built with a default Q factor of 55mm, which is the same as most other clipless pedals. Rearranging the spacers and bearings can produce Q factors of 51 and 59mm. A set of two 2mm spacers is available as an extra and can also be installed for Q-factor options of 53 and 57mm. Instructions and a video guide are available on the Wolf Tooth website.
Though the SHIFT pedals come with a set of Wolf Tooth cleats, the pedals will work with SPD cleats from other brands. Also included is a set of shims further to customize the connection between the shoe and the pedal. The SHIFT pedals are available in black and ultraviolet purple, with more colors to follow soon. Like all Wolf Tooth components, the pedals are designed, engineered, and assembled at Wolf Tooth HQ in Minnesota and retail for $239.95. Wolf Tooth has also made a fun, metal-heavy video to display the intended use of the SHIFT pedals:
