Having photographed many races and rides over the years and eager to build up more bikepacking experience of his own, photographer Dan Monaghan took on the 210-mile Badger Divide route between Inverness and Glasgow last month. Last summer, Bjørn Olson and Kim McNett loaded up their fat bikes and packrafts for a 10-day journey along a stretch of Alaska’s remote Seward Peninsula. The trip had them pedaling up rugged mountains, traversing narrow bits of coast, encountering grizzlies, braving intense storms, and connecting with people in isolated villages. Last month, more than 60 bikepackers gathered near the Zócalo in the heart of Mexico City to pedal 800 kilometers out of the capital and around active volcanoes, over mountains, and through highlands to the Oaxacan coast.
