The first episode of Old Man Mountain’s inaugural Loam and Gravel Society video series is now live, and it features our friend and regular contributor Evan Christenson—president of the Loam and Gravel Society—taking on our very own Chama Charmer route in New Mexico with photographer Evan Green. The pair of Evans check out the region’s geology as they pedal along the 117-mile route, and a thunderstorm, heaps of downed trees, and other hazards keep their time on the trail interesting and ultimately cut their ride short.

Note that there has been an unusually high amount of blowdown to clear due to the long forest closure, but crews have been actively working to do so. According to a commenter on the route page, there was a conservation crew removing downed trees on the section shown in the video at the same time the two Evans were out on the trail, and it has now been cleared. You can watch the nearly 30-minute video below, followed by a handful of beautiful images captured along the way.
