Bikepacking Buds was born after co-founder Saoirse Pottie put a call out on social media asking if anyone would be willing to join her on bikepacking trip to the New Forest in the UK. Nearly 30 people showed up for the frigid campout in January, and it sparked the idea to continue building the community. Alongside Liv Rubene, Itzi Aldecoa Tamayo and Cat Green, Saoirse decided to set up Bikepacking Buds, a community where people can share trips, connect with each other, and break down the barriers that normally hold people back. The eighth episode of Pachamama Cycling shares their story. Watch it below.
“There are so many moments when you’re cycling when you just feel so empowered, so powerful, so independent, so free.”
Bikepacking Buds has grown to include a podcast, a collection of beginner-friendly route ideas, trip reports, workshops, and more. There are opportunities for experienced bikepackers to host rides, newer riders to find groups to join, and many different ways you can support the project online.
