Last summer, I went on my first-ever solo overnighter. It felt like a very special moment as, even though I had many years of bikepacking experience, I had never really cycled solo before. The thought of a new adventure where I fully relied on myself made me feel excited but also a little anxious. However, upon completing it, I knew this experience couldn’t be a one-off.
For 2024, I set a new goal: Spend more time outdoors. And be okay with doing it solo! There are many ways I hope to put this into practice, but one concept that charmed me from the beginning was the thought of a seasonal overnighter. Packing my bike and going on a weekend ride in the winter, spring, summer, and autumn.
Living near the Mediterranean means our winters are more like a cozy breeze, but if you head inland for about 100 kilometers, everything changes. So, when the forecast hinted at snowfall, I packed my bike and headed into the mountains. It was my chance to try my first ride in those conditions.
The ride had its challenges, but it also came with some sweet rewards. In this first episode of my seasonal overnighter series, I share my insecurities regarding this icy adventure. I invite you to join me in this serene and beautiful area of central Spain.
