After one customer experienced a failure with the bike’s hinge spindle, Brompton has recalled its newest line of off-road-oriented folding bikes. Read on for more on the Brompton recall and pertinent safety information…
Brompton has issued a recall for its “gravel” oriented line of folding bikes, citing that the hinge spindle may be susceptible to corrosion and failure. While the storied British folding bike manufacturer hasn’t issued a stop-ride notice, they’re encouraging customers to visit their local Brompton dealer for a service check, with replacement spindles offered at no charge. Though customers who’ve purchased Bromptons in the G-Line past a certain date may be unaffected by the faulty spindle, confirming the serial number through Brompton’s warranty claims service allows customers to see if they need a replacement spindle.

Prompted by the failure of a hinge spindle in one customer’s G-Line Brompton, the folding bike company stated, “Although this did not result in any injury or incident, we have taken the decision to change the hinge spindle to one which has increased durability and perform a recall to ensure all current owners can receive this update at no charge.”

Brompton’s G-Line is the latest release from the UK-based mini-velo company, with off-road iteration offering all-new geometry, tubeless-ready 20” wheels with custom-specced Schwalbe tires, hydraulic disc brakes, and an internally geared eight-speed drivetrain.
