We just learned that Alexandera Houchin set the new women’s singlespeed record for the Arizona Trail 300. Find the details, a couple of photos, and a quote from Alexandera here…

We’ve been riveted by the Arizona Trail Race achievements over these last few weeks, watching both Timon and Jefe put down incredible efforts. However, we missed the fact that a couple of weeks prior, our friend Alexandera Houchin set a new women’s singlespeed record.

Alexandera rode out among a small group of riders, each with stealthy potato-themed pseudonyms in Trackleaders. She finished the 280-mile course in just 2d, 19h, and 25m, besting the former singlespeed record by over 10 hours, held by Alice Drobna since 2015 (3d, 10h, and 30m). Alexandera was riding a Chumba Stella geared at 32 x 22 with 29 x 2.4″ Maxxis Ardent tires.

Alexandera Houchin Singlespeed Record AZT 300

When we asked about the ride, Alexandera had this to say: “The last time I finished the AZT300, it took me six and a half days. I went a wee bit faster this time. Must have been the grams I shed losing the derailleur… Real talk though, three weeks before I rode the route, it was -40°F in northern Minnesota. I deep fried my guts in the desert. A little out of shape, and it was my first effort since I broke my wrist, there’s definitely plenty of room for improvement. Ooh, actually, it was probably the leopard print…”

A truly astounding effort. Congrats, Alexandera! It’s crazy to think that three of the four main AZT 300 records were bested in a matter of a couple weeks. If you missed it, be sure to read about Timon’s finish and Jefe’s record, too.
