The revamped 2021 Ritchey Ascent pays homage to its adventurous beginnings 30 years ago, now featuring modern specs, clearance for 29 x 2.6″ tires, and a TIG welded steel frame. Learn more here…
The Ritchey Ascent is back! While it still exists as a mountain bike tourer of sorts, the latest Ascent has been updated with modern specs, new features, and a brand new fork. The 2021 Ritchey Ascent is designed around a TIG welded heat-treated, triple-butted Ritchey Logic steel frame, and an updated steel fork with a straight steerer. Both the frame and fork are kitted out with loads of mounting options, including rack and fenders, three-pack fork mounts, and a triple set of mount under the downtube.
The newest Ascent maintains its original geometry but adds more tire clearance for both 27.5 x 2.6″ and 29 x 2.6″ tires and Boost hub spacing with thru-axles. Ritchey claims this adds up to even more capable for backcountry mountain bike adventures. Some other nice features include a replaceable stainless-steel derailleur hanger, threaded bottom bracket, and a standard external seat collar. Full length, non-segmented cables are great to see and it’s also now compatible with post-mount disc brakes.

Geometry wise, the Ascent appears to be better suited for a drop bar setup, based on reach numbers. But depending on your preferences and fit, could be a solid contender for just a slightly longer stem, or something like the new Curve Remlaw that Logan recently reviewed. Compared to the Ritchey Outback, the Ascent has a longer wheelbase, higher stack, and shorter reach. The Ascent’s head tube angle is slightly more slack at 70.5° and it has 10mm longer chainstays. “Call it what you will—Swiss Army knife of sorts, Jack of most trades, Jeremiah Johnson of bikes—the 2021 Ritchey Ascent is for those who like to get lost in the wilderness.” – Ritchey Design
The 2021 Ritchey Ascent frameset is available worldwide from RitcheyLogic.com or your local bike shop via distributor for $1,299 USD / €1,299.
