Thanks to updated construction methods and a new silpoly fabric, the 2025 Durston X-Mid 2 is the lightest version yet, shedding half a pound from the original. Find all the details here…
Owned and operated by Dan Durston and his wife T, Durston is a two-person operation based out of Alberta, Canada. Durston’s flagship product was the X-Mid 1, which launched in 2018 and was an instant hit among backpackers and bikepackers. They followed that with a two-person model, the X-Mid 2, which uses the same patented X-Mid geometry with twin-offset poles and a unique parallelogram internal/rectangle external shape.

The original X-Mid 2 weighed 2.4 pounds (1,100 grams), which was light at the time, but they’ve been working hard to keep up with the demands of ultralight backpackers and bikepackers. In 2024, it dropped nearly 100 grams, and now, for 2025, Durston has managed to reduce the weight to just 1.9 pounds (880 grams), not including the required tent poles.
Instead of cutting features, reducing space inside the tent, or using less durable fabrics, Durston focused on weight efficiency. Using narrower seams and seam tape and a new high-tenacity 15D silpoly fabric allowed a substantial weight reduction without sacrificing key features and specs.
For 2025, Durston’s X-Mid 2 now features more reliable interior zippers, improved shaping of the interior pockets, and the “mitten clips” that secure the inner and outer tent together have been replaced with buckles for easier operation. The cold-weather X-Mid 2 Solid version of the X-Mid also sees the same updates, except it’s still being made with the proven 20D silpoly fabric.
The Durston X-Mid 2 costs $274 USD (~$400 CAD) and is available now from DurstonGear.com.
