Joining the celebrated VeloSamba, the new Adidas VeloStan Smith is the brand’s latest storied sneaker to get a clipless update. Learn more about the special edition SPD-compatible version of a perennial classic here…
Launched earlier this month, the Adidas VeloStan Smith shoes offer a cycling-friend update to an enduring model from the brand’s lineup that first appeared back in 1978. It keeps the Stan Smith’s distinctive silhouette but features a discreet two-bolt SPD-cleat mount and a nylon sole plate. The nylon plate has been adapted to cover the front two-thirds of the sole only, which Adidas claims provides stiffness for efficiency of cycling movements while also allowing for flexibility and comfort when walking.
Priced at $160 and available in sizes 3 to 14, the VeloStans feature a lace-up closure and a regular fit. The upper uses a soft, full-grain leather for all-season use, and the iconic green foam heel and perforated three stripes bring through the signature accents of the original silhouette. In honor of this special edition, the tongue has been embossed with a golden portrait of Stan Smith and his racing bike. Introducing the new model, tennis great Stan Smith said, “As someone who loves the adventure cycling offers – it’s exciting to see how these small but mighty additions can continue the silhouette’s sporting legacy. By bringing Stan Smith to cycling, I hope it encourages more people to discover new communities and find freedom through the bicycle.”
