Race Across South Africa, part of the Freedom Challenge series, is a 2,150-kilometer self-supported mountain bike race that follows the Freedom Trail from Pietermaritzburg to Wellington along a wide variety of off-road terrain. From dirt roads to faint game tracks, the Race Across South Africa is known to be challenging and physically demanding. Although it’s a non-stop event, there are mandatory checkpoints along the route where riders have the option to stash resupply items to pick up along the way. All participants must complete the route in 26 days or under.

Alex Harris just set a new course record, beating the previous record by over 7 hours, with a time of just 9 days and 22 hours. He overcame extremely high temperatures, sleep deprivation, to pull off a sub-10-day finish.
