We’re thrilled to unveil our latest Collective Reward giveway, made possible by the small team at Fairlight Cycles over in the UK. We’ll be randomly choosing one member of the Bikepacking Collective to receive a Fairlight Faran 2.5 frameset in their choice of color (Midnight Blue, Moss, or Winter Bracken), plus a Hope headset and seat clamp and a one-of-a-kind set of custom laser-engraved dropout plates. All total, that’s a roughly $1,400 value for our winner.

Fairlight’s Faran is a favorite among several of us on the team, and I’ve toured around Germany, the French Alps, and the UK on mine. Logan reviewed one in 2021, writing, “Anyone looking for an all-road, utility-forward rig that’s equally at home as a randonneur, light touring bike, commuter, or gravel-bikepacker would likely love Fairlight’s Faran.” We admire the Faran so much, in fact, that this is the second time we’re giving one away to a lucky site supporter.

Our earlier giveaway was for the 2.0 version, and the winner of this giveaway will receive the update Fairlight Faran 2.5, which subtly refines one of the most thoughtfully designed frames we’ve ever seen, slightly increasing the tire clearance up to 27.5 x 60mm (2.36″), adding a heat-treated rear triangle, and including Fairlight x Bentley Mk II dropouts that feature CNC-machined, fully modular inserts on both sides. As always, Fairlight is unmatched in the extensive (and fascinating) documentation they provide to accompany their frames, and you can find a whopping 115-page PDF outlining all things Faran 2.5 here, right down to the meaning behind the pattern on the top tube.

Here’s How to Win!

Everyone who has joined the Bikepacking Collective by 11:59 PM on Wednesday, April 17th, is automatically entered for a chance to win a Faran 2.5 frameset or one of more than a dozen other prizes. Our members are essential to ensuring the future of the site, and as a thank you for their support, they receive two issues of The Bikepacking Journal in the mail each year and have access to many other great benefits such as discounts and exclusive access to merchandise and other products. We’re largely reader-supported, and every member makes a difference.

FARAN 2.5 INTRODUCTION

At the heart of the Faran 2.5 is a carefully selected and custom-formed Reynolds 631 steel frame with a 4130 headtube that’s built in Taiwan from UK-made tubes. It sports low-mid trail geometry designed to balance unloaded agility and loaded stability, clearance for chunky tires, a spacious main triangle for mounting bags, and provisions for front and rear racks, full fenders, three sets of bottle mounts on the main triangle, four-pack mounts on the fork legs, and front and rear dynamo routing. The Faran’s ovalized top tube is an eye-catcher and is designed to flex under load while remaining laterally stiff. According to Fairlight, the flattened design is structurally superior to a traditional top tube, too.

One touch I particularly appreciate about the Faran is that Fairlight’s proportional geometry lets riders pick between regular and tall versions of their full run of 51cm to 61cm sizes for a total of 10 size options, helping ensure proper fit. At a little over 6’2″ tall, I feel right at home on my 58T, which offers a comfy combination of a shorter top tube and higher stack to get the reach and handlebar height just right for all-day riding.
