Following a series of flow tests, Jones Bikes just announced that they’ve switched from Presta to Schrader valve stems on all of their bikes and wheels. Watch the test video and learn more about the Jones Spec. Schrader Valve Stems here…

In the most recent shake-up of standards, Jones Bikes is going all-in on Schrader valves, and they’ve released their own modernized version. Behind the scenes, they’ve been testing various valves to compare flow and ease of use, and they just shared a video that showcases a test of 10 tubeless valve stems. The new Jones Spec. Schrader Valve Stems fare impressively well, and they’re now speccing them on their full range of bikes and wheels.

Making the case for the new valves, Jones wrote, “For very narrow rims, smaller diameter Presta stems are used so a smaller hole can be made in the rim. A larger diameter hole could make the skinny rim weaker there. For wider rims, the Schrader valve stem makes more sense. The Schrader valve stem is stiffer, sturdier, and easier to use than Presta. They have a much larger diameter than Presta, allowing for increased airflow. This makes setting up wheels tubeless much easier.”

The new Jones Spec. Schrader Valve Stems cost $25/pair and weigh in at 24 grams for the set. They’re 36.5mm tall and fit an 8mm rim hole. According to Jones, they work perfectly with all of their aluminum and carbon rims, and they say they’ll fit many other rims (with Schrader drilling) as well. They feature removable/replaceable valve cores, sealed aluminum valve caps with integrated tools for bleeding and removal, a beveled aluminum base, and a large stem ring nut that they claim offers good grip. Jones says the lower-profile base also makes installing tires easier because it minimizes the likelihood of catching the tire bead on the stem.
