On day one, Karin and McKenna Marino traded the lead position early in the race until Karin created a gap in the afternoon. That night, she took a brief rest at the base of Casner Mountain, the massive hike-a-bike ascending out of the Sedona area. By 5:00 p.m. on day two, she had made it to the summit of O’Leary Peak, a mandatory out-and-back summit north-east of Flagstaff. After another night and a bit of rest near mile 253, she knocked out the remaining miles making her way back into Flagstaff and securing the first place finish. She mentioned that it was nice to finally finish a race in the daylight!
