Kumo Cycles is a one-person frame workshop run by Keith Marshall in Canberra, Australia. There are two ways to get yourself a Kumo: snagging one from a production batch that launches at various times throughout the year or ordering a custom frame, but Keith doesn’t always take on custom orders. Kumo just opened up pre-sales for their next batch of production RADdonneurs, which is Keith’s take on a fast, tough, and versatile backcountry touring machine.
Here’s how Keith describes the Kumo RADdonneur on his website, “The design is a culmination of over 30,000km of testing and tweaking, I wanted to build a versatile bike which can be built with drop bars, risers, jones, 48mm slicks to 2.4″ knobby tyres, and many more variations.”

It’s optimized for a 1x drivetrain (but 2x setups also work), and the frame uses a T47 bottom bracket shell and 12mm thru-axles front and rear. It has a 1 1/8″ straight steerer tube, a 27.2mm seatpost, and there are three bottle mounts on every size, with a three-pack mount under the downtube and on the fork legs for cargo cages. The frame and fork are made from Columbus and Reynolds steel with smooth and beefy fillet brazing, and 27.5 x 2.4″ tires should fit with most rim/tire combinations.

The RADdonneur is available in four sizes (S-XL), and all sizes have a 72.5° head tube angle, a 395mm fork, and 435mm chainstays. Kumo’s price includes a custom stem and nameplate on the top tube, and complete builds are available upon request. There are six stock paint jobs to choose from: Storm’s Brewing (blue), Gum Leaves (green), Sandy Chainrings (tan), Brindabella Mudbath (red), Monga Mist (light blue), and Poor Maintenance (brown). Framesets cost $4,200 AUD (~$2,700 USD) and are made to order with a lead time of four to eight weeks.
