From the front lines of the Colorado Trail Race: severe weather is making the race extra challenging this year, but leader “Ned Bachanko” is cruising right along. Find more updates and a few photos from the trail here…

So far, the 2021 Colorado Trail Race has been a fun one to dot watch. Leader Ned Bachanko (our own Neil Beltchenko) has held the lead in the men’s roster since very early on. Neil, err, Ned is now crossing the halfway mark, with Jeff Kerkove about 30 miles back and Jefe Branham close in third.

In a text early this morning, Neil mentioned that he’s “Feeling good, considering I couldn’t fall asleep last night. It was probably due to the fact that I got drenched out of Silverton. Today was better… less rain but those rocks on Sargents Mesa! We all love them, but I swear they added more. Two things that are apparent: people really love bikepacking and backpacking right now, and the trail is in the worst shape I’ve ever seen it due to all the rain.”

Find a few photos from him below, and scroll down to follow the race with our new Tracker functionality, which we’ll be sharing more about soon…
