Based in Alberta, Canada, Outlier is a mountain bike component brand owned by Peter Cowling and Cameron Belisle O’Donnell. Their flagship product, the Pendulum Pedals, launched via pre-order two years ago and gained serious attention. Instead of a standard dual-sided design, the Pendulum Pedals are one-sided, and the platform sits 7mm below the center of the axle to lower the rider’s center of mass, boosting stability and control. If you take your foot off the pedal, they self-right. They were originally made in Canada, but tariffs and the cost of the raw materials forced Outlier to have them manufactured in Asia, which they say has resulted in a much better final product.

The new Outlier Metronome Pedals offer many of the same benefits but in a smaller package that’s ideal for small to medium-sized feet. The Metronome Pedals are machined from 7075 Aluminum, spin on two robust 7902 bearings, feature nine pins per pedal, and have a 98mm-long by 115mm-wide platform. The base of the platform sits 7mm below the center of the axle, and they are a mere 7.5mm thin at the outer edge, with a shape optimized to glance off roots and rocks.

The Metronome Pedals have a concave profile and are ideal for shoe sizes 3.5 US men’s, 5 US women’s, 35.5 EU, 3 UK, and larger. They also work well for medium to large size feet (men’s US size 8-10.5) if you prefer a more conventional pedal feel. Riders with size 11 US men’s or larger are likely to prefer the Pendulum. They weigh 204 grams per pedal and come in black or raw.
