This week’s Reader’s Rig comes from our friend Emily in British Columbia, who shares the All-City Super Professional she recently rebuilt to tackle a two-week a solo ride of the Tree to Sea Loop on Vancouver Island. Get to know Emily and her bike here…

I’m Emily, and I’m currently living in qathet, British Columbia, Canada. I grew up biking around my hometown, usually as a way to get from my babysitting gig to the beach as fast as possible. I started biking more during my travels with Miles (thanks to a cute little Jamis in 2018), but it wasn’t until I moved to the qathet region in 2020 and found a group of women to ride with that I started to enjoy my time on the bike. Together, we’ve tackled gravel roads, small bikepacking trips, and fun mountain bike rides.

All-City Super Professional

I was looking for my first “gravel” bike a few years ago but was hesitant to get anything too aggressive. I decided on the All-City Super Professional mostly because of the colour and the upright riding position. Over the last few years, it’s been with me on short errands and treat runs, day rides on the gravel roads around qathet, and bike trips around British Columbia.

This past summer, I completed my first solo bikepacking trip on my Super Professional, following the Tree to Sea Loop on North Vancouver Island. With the help of my friend Justin at Taws Bike Garage, a few important swaps were made to make the trip as smooth as possible. A few days before my departure, we switched to wider 650b wheels and tires and a 12-speed drivetrain with a massive cassette. Thankfully, my only issue with the bike the whole trip was a bent rear valve, likely from balancing my pannier on my helmet when pumping up the tire.
