The Sklar SuperSomething V2 features a lighter tubeset, fresh specs, more mounting points, and many of the same features from the original, including 2.1″ tire clearance, practical complete build options, and the option for a color-matched carbon fork. Dig into all the details here…
After two decades of designing and building custom bicycles, Adam Sklar of Sklar Bikes turned his focus to small-batch production bikes from Taiwan, starting with the SuperSomething two years ago. I spent a few months riding around Oregon, Idaho, and Colorado on one that fall, and it ended up hitting the gravel sweet spot for me. In my review, I praised its versatile and comfortable geometry, generous tire clearance, and high-end aesthetic borrowed from its US-made frames.
The updated SuperSomething shares many similarities with the original version, but there are a few small changes worth highlighting. First up, the entire tubing spec has changed from V2, saving around 1.5 pounds (frame and fork), which is significant. The frame and fork are made from double-butted, heat-treated chromoly steel, but there’s also the option to purchase a color-matched carbon fork if desired. The frame now uses a SRAM UDH rear dropout, which is becoming the go-to standard for most modern bicycles.
It has a new cast Chromoly chainstay yoke instead of a dimpled tube, and it now uses flat-mount brakes on the front and back to make builds come together even easier. The frame maintains rack and fender mounts, two standard bottle cage mounts, downtube mounts, and the fork has been updated with three-pack mounts for even more luggage-carrying capability. The included unicrown fork features smaller diameter tubing that Adam says offers additional flex, comfort, and control. Other specs include a threaded bottom bracket, external cable routing, a 27.2mm seatpost, and 12mm thru-axles. There’s still no internal dropper post routing, but an externally routed dropper could get around that.
The geometry on the SuperSomething V2 has stayed mostly the same, but there appears to be a touch more stack height, the same ~70.5° head tube angle, and a longer front end. It’s still offered in five frame sizes, from small to extra-large. Check out the complete geometry chart below.
