Seldom Seen of Bozeman, Montana, just updated the Fika Hip Pack with a lid bungee, aluminum hardware, and a “camera mod” option for folks who like to capture photos on the move. Check it out here…
I met Eli Santos of Seldom Seen at the MADE bike show this summer. He was tagging along with the Brooks crew, and he also had his personal Goodday fat bike on display, which I couldn’t resist bringing outside for a closer look. During our chat, I learned that Eli had recently launched an outdoor gear company in Bozeman, Montana, called Seldom Seen. He makes totes, zippered pouches, dog collars, and hip packs, and everything we’ve seen is designed to be multi-functional and built to last. He gave us a sneak peek at his hip pack at the show, and he just finalized an update that makes it look even more useful.
According to Eli, the Seldom Seen Fika Hip Pack is designed to be your “multisport companion in and out of the mountains.” It functions as both a hip pack and a crossbody bag, with a three-liter capacity that works equally well for a half-day on the trail or as an add-on to a full bikepacking kit. The waist strap secures via a burly AustriAlpin GT Cobra buckle, which is extremely durable, easy to use with or without gloves, and won’t get jammed up with snow.
The Fika has a built-in bear spray holster on the bottom, all-aluminum hardware, an interior key clip, side compression straps with G-hooks, and a pass-through behind the front pocket for storing awkwardly shaped items like a folding saw. The bag is built with water-resistant zippers and recycled fabrics, and it includes a user-replaceable lid bungee to secure your jacket or other small items. Among the updates is the option to purchase the “camera mod” add-on, which adds a padded divider and Velcro system that lets wearers carry a camera as large as a Sony A7 with a 24 to 70mm lens. The divider keeps your camera from moving and separates it from other gear in your hip pack.
The Fika Hip Packs costs $175 (or $195 with the camera mod), and there are three standard color options to choose from. A limited edition color is dropping early next month, and custom colors/modifications are available on a case-by-case basis.
