My friend Zach and I decided it would be worthwhile to head to Patagonia to see how the gravel is. Spoiler: it’s amazing. We also decided to be true to our love of single speeds and tour with one gear. We’re currently one week into a 1,300-mile route starting in Pucon, Chile, and ending in Villa O’Higgins, Chile. The route weaves back and forth between Argentina and Chile following parts of the Argentina Beer Trail and the Carratera Austral, favoring as much gravel as we can.

We’re pumped to hit the trails for our first family bikepacking adventure in ages! We’re cruising 14 kilometers from home, diving deep into the forest to set up camp at a cool old campsite by a lake. We’ve got everything we need for a delicious dinner, a hearty breakfast, and plenty of fun stuff to keep our six-year-old entertained. This is our training ground for next July’s epic European bikepacking trip!
